SANGSAD BHABAN, Feb 13, 2024 (BSS) - Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Samanta Lal Sen today said the government has a plan to establish five burn hospitals in the country as around seven lakh people each year suffer from burn related complications. Under the plan, Samanta Lal said the government will set up four 100-bed burn hospitals in Rajshahi, Sylhet, Barishal and Rangpur and one 150-bed hospital in Chattogram. Sen said there is no scope to extend more bed at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery. Since the first twenty-four hours is golden hours for the burn patient that's why the burn hospitals need to be enhanced, the minister explained. Replying to another supplementary question from another treasury bench lawmaker Elias Uddin Mollah of Dhaka-16, the health minister said the government will consider the set up of another 200-bed hospital at Mirpur section-12.

The University administration did not simply tolerate these disruptive actions; they listened to students and responded. All three protests played a role in changing University policy. The policy reiterates a set of existing policies defining the boundaries of free assembly and speech on campus and introduces a whole series of new ones. It has been said that a democracy’s ability to tolerate disruptive demonstrations is an important test of its commitment to values like free expression. The Cornell Daily Sun is interested in publishing a broad and diverse set of content from the Cornell and greater Ithaca community.

PARIS, Feb 13, 2024 (BSS/AFP) - Past and future UN climate talk hosts the United Arab Emirates, Azerbaijan and Brazil said Tuesday they are forming a "troika" to push for an international agreement to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. The UAE hosted last year's COP28 conference in Dubai, while Azerbaijan will host this year's summit followed by Brazil in 2025. The 1.5-degree Celsius limit will probably be reached between 2030 and 2035, according to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). "We are committed to leveraging our strength as a bridge builder between the developed and developing world as host of COP29, to accelerate efforts to keep 1.5 in reach," said COP29 president-designate Mukhtar Babayev. "Key to that will be establishing a new climate finance goal that reflects the scale and urgency of the climate challenge."

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina recently announced plans to merge the struggling Padma Bank with another banking institution to protect its customers and stabilise the financial sector. The government has endorsed this approach, under which the central bank will categorise the beleaguered banks as vulnerable. A senior official from Bangladesh Bank said that Padma Bank might be merged with the state-owned Sonali Bank, although this has yet to be confirmed. As part of the plan, Sonali Bank's Managing Director Afzal Karim has been named chairman of Padma Bank. The central bank also believes the number of operational banks in the country should be reduced, although the details are still being finalised.

Reputation will be on the line when Intuitive Machines' Nova-C spaceship will launch atop a SpaceX rocket on Wednesday, following recent completed touchdowns by China, India and Japan. The answer lies in the way NASA has fundamentally reorganized itself for Artemis, the agency's flagship Moon-to-Mars program. "The reliability that SpaceX has now is as a result of painfully blowing up multiple rockets along the way," he said. Rather than telling private industry exactly what to build, the agency now purchases services from companies -- though this at-times piecemeal approach carries certain drawbacks. China, meanwhile, has set a deadline of 2030 for its own crewed landing -- and has lately stuck to its promises.
