BEIJING, April 10, 2026 (BSS/AFP) - China's consumer prices rose in March, official data showed Friday, while factory gate prices returned to positive territory for the first time in more than three years, stoked by soaring oil prices due to the Middle East war. The consumer price index, a key measure of inflation, came in at 1.0 percent in March, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), falling slightly below the 1.1 percent increase forecast in a Bloomberg survey. NBS data on Friday also showed that prices at the factory gate -- which had been stuck in negative territory since October 2022 -- showed signs of recovery. But the rise in gasoline prices bolstered consumer prices, Dong added. "The situation in the Middle East remains highly uncertain, so is the inflation outlook for many countries including China," Zhiwei Zhang of Pinpoint Asset Management wrote in a note.

SINGAPORE, April 10, 2026 (BSS/AFP) - Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will seek to boost ties with a key supplier of refined fuel in Singapore on Friday as a shaky ceasefire between the United States and Iran showed no sign of curbing petrol prices. Australia relies on imports for an estimated 90 percent of its refined petroleum products. Three percent of service stations across the country were reported this week to have run out of diesel. The city state provides Australia with more than a quarter of its refined fuel. Energy Minister Chris Bowen said Thursday that 216 service stations across Australia were without diesel -- roughly 2.7 percent of the total.
