Egyptian Minister of Civil Aviation Mohamed Manar Enaba announced Saturday that his country is preparing to expand air traffic within Africa through national airline EgyptAir in the coming years, following the end of the pandemic. Enaba said that the Egyptian national airline has 36 flight points across the continent, and partnerships have been conducted with many African countries to facilitate the movement of goods through aviation throughout the continent. He explained that the first of these partnerships was with Sudan and South Sudan, and the air cargo fleet has been expanded in a vital step to increase trade movement. The increase in Africa’s share of world trade is linked to the reduction in the cost of aviation between African countries, and the digitization of transport traffic, he noted. Egypt is actively coordinating efforts to set open skies agreements to protect the nascent African national aviation industry to play an active role in improving the intra-African trade movement.

English media reports confirmed Saturday that Egyptian international and Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah is not leaving Liverpool, following recent speculation that he would move into a historic deal to the French club Paris Saint-Germain. According to the Liverpool Echo website, the Liverpool administration is “very keen on concluding a new contract with Salah”, although negotiations have not yet begun. Salah had been rumored to move to Paris Saint-Germain this summer, where he would receive three times his salary in Liverpool. Egyptian Transport Minister Kamel al-Wazir announced Saturday a contract will soon be signed with Sudan to construct the longest suspension bridge over Lake Nasser at a length of six km for railway travel between Egypt and Sudan. During his participation in the first edition of Integration for Growth Forum in Africa, Wazir said that all studies related to the railway connection project with Sudan have been completed. Sudan has expressed a desire to extend the line to Abu Hamad and then to Khartoum, and an interchange station will be established in Abu Hamad for railways, Wazir added. Egypt hopes that the new railway line linking Egypt to Sudan will act as a platform for the export of Egyptian products to Sudan, Central Africa and the rest of the continent. Egypt and Sudan had established a joint railway committee in 2008 in to promote railway connections between the two countries.

CAIRO - 12 June 2021: The Egyptian Health Ministry said 733 new coronavirus cases were detected, upping the total number of confirmed cases since the outbreak in the country began to 271,789. In a statement, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said 37 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 15,547. Egypt has so far received millions of coronavirus vaccine doses and is planning to locally produce the first batch of the Chinese Sinovac vaccine this month. As the country has started its vaccination campaign in January, more than 3.5 million citizens have been vaccinated, according to Health Ministry spokesman Khaled Megahed earlier this week. Also, the ministry started vaccinating homebound citizens against coronavirus through sending medical teams to their houses.

The Directorate of Agriculture in Egypt’s New Valley Governorate announced its success in a pilot project to grow dry rice, an alternative to regular rice, for the first time at the governorate level. Morsy added that the directorate organized a series of seminars on dry rice in the presence of irrigation officials, engineers and agricultural supervisors to present the methods and benefits of cultivating dry rice. The governorate’s Agriculture Directorate has introduced new varieties of dry rice to conserve the water while maintaining supplies. Morsy added the dry rice pilot project showed that it took just 3,500 cubic meters of water per feddan to grow dry rice, as compared to regular rice’s 7,000 cubic meters per feddan. The study also found that the average yield of dry rice per feddan reached 3.2 tons, which is worth LE15,000.

Transport Minister Kamel al-Wazir met with the Chinese ambassador to Cairo, Liao Liqiang, on Thursday to discuss a number of transportation projects between Egypt and China. The meeting was also attended by the commercial attaché of the Chinese embassy, and the head and leaders of Egypt’s National Tunnels Authority. The two sides discussed the Light Electric Train (LRT) project from al-Salam city to the new Administrative Capital and the 10th of Ramadan City. Wazir invited the Chinese ambassador for a tour of the project, which is being implemented by the Chinese AFIC / Creek alliance, in order to inspect progress. Egypt will receive three trains from China by the end of July, which will be used in test runs.
