CAIRO – 26 February 2023: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli arrived Sunday evening in Doha upon an invitation by his Qatari counterpart Sheikh Khaled Bin Khalifa Bin Abdel Aziz Al Thani. The Egyptian prime minister is accompanied by a high-profile delegation comprising the ministers of planning, health, finance, and trade as well as the chairmen of the SCzone and the General Authority for Public Mobilization and Statistics (GAFI). The visit's agenda includes holding talks on bilateral cooperation in various fields between the senior officials of both countries, and signing a number of memoranda of understanding (MoUs). That is in addition to holding meetings between members of the Egyptian delegation and Qatar businessmen to confer over investment opportunities and enlarging trade exchange.

(Reuters) - European soccer's governing body UEFA has opened an investigation after Sevilla goalkeeper Marko Dmitrovic was attacked by a fan on the pitch in Thursday's Europa League match at PSV Eindhoven, The Athletic sports website reported. Players and staff from both teams gathered around Dmitrovic and the pitch invader before stewards intervened and took the invader off the field. Sevilla lost the knockout stage playoff 2-0 but still advanced to the next round with an aggregate score of 3-2. UEFA did not release a statement but The Athletic said the governing body confirmed to the website on Friday that a case had been opened following the incident. Dmitrovic, who had a red bruise on his neck after the incident, urged UEFA to intervene.

CAIRO – 25 February 2023: Consulate General of Egypt in Milan noted the suspects behind the killing of Egyptian citizen Mohamed Ebrahim Mansour have been arrested. In a statement on Sunday, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said it is following up on the updates of the case of Mansour as the suspects were arrested. The ministry added that search is ongoing for more suspects in the case. Police last Tuesday announced arresting three suspects who belong to one family, blaming the crime on family dynamics. Early in February, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said that it is closely following up on the incident, noting that Italian authorities said the death took place on 14 January.

The CEO of the Egyptian Space Agency (EgSA), Sherif Sedky, announced that Egypt has successfully launched the “Horus 1” satellite from the launch base in northwest China. During a telephone interview with Channel One on Friday, Sedky said that the satellite was built under strategic cooperation between Egypt and China. “There is great cooperation between Egypt and China in the field of space and launching satellites, and we are also establishing a center for assembling, integrating and testing satellites,” he added. “(The) Horus 1 satellite is the beginning of a group of remote sensing satellites, and it is being developed through the full participation of a team of Egyptian and Chinese experts, to localize satellite manufacturing technology.”Sedky explained that the Horus 1 satellite is remote sensing and carries a high-resolution imaging camera on board, thus serving all the requirements of the Egyptian state’s strategic vision 2030 and requirements of sustainable development.

CAIRO – 24 February 2023: The Egyptian Ministry of Interior banned the travel of citizens who suffer from chronic diseases from performing the Hajj rituals (the pilgrimage) this year,The ban includes people who are the most vulnerable to the risks of infection, according to the controls approved by the Ministry of Health. Those patients include those who suffer from kidney failure and whose treatment requires dialysis sessions, patients with lung fibrosis, cases of morbid obesity, advanced cases of cardiovascular disease, liver cirrhosis, and tumors, pregnant women in the first and last months, and people with mental illness and Alzheimer’s. The Ministry stipulated that travelers should be administered booster doses for internationally approved vaccines against the Coronavirus, adding that a copy of the certificate from the General Administration of Administrative Affairs is a condition for obtaining a visa.

CAIRO – 20 February 2023: House of Representatives’ planning and budget committee approved a new amendment to law no.147 for 1984 in Monday's session, lifting taxes imposed on production components for mobile phones, in order to encourage local production. The amendment aims to lift the tax of “advancing financial resources” off both the components needed for local mobile phones production and the locally manufactured end product, while maintaining the same tax on imported counterparts used for commercial gains. Head of the Egyptian Customs Authority, Al-Shahat Al-Ghatouri, stated that previously, customs taxes on imported mobile phones were zero, which played a big part in discouraging local production. However, this has changed when a 10 percent tax was imposed, sparking interest in local production. Previously, the Egyptian cabinet approved proposing the new amendment, conditioning the benefitting companies to include 40 percent of local components in its end product, as well as exporting 40 percent of the total production.

The head of the Poultry Division at the Chamber of Commerce in Egypt Abdel-Aziz al-Sayed announced that the Supply and Internal Trade Ministry intends to begin importing chicken from abroad, which will hit the markets soon. During a phone-in with TV host Amr Adib on his show “al-Hekaya” (The Story) on Saturday, Sayed added that the prices of imported chicken will be LE25 cheaper than Egyptian chicken. The price of an imported chicken (1.5 kilos) will be LE95 compared to LE 120 at the lowest price of the Egyptian chicken now. Sayed said that the poultry market is in disarray with unjustified price increases, as the cost of chicken has reached LE80 per kilo. The main problem facing the market is the high prices of production inputs, he said, stressing that the prices of chicken will not decrease except with a decrease in production input.
