After a few quiet years in Sacramento regarding HOAs, California’s legislature is quite active this year with at least eight bills proposing to affect HOAs in 2024. Assembly Bill 648 would, if passed, allow HOAs to have purely virtual or telephonic meetings without having a physical location announced for those not wishing to participate virtually or telephonically. Assembly Bill 288, authored by Assembly member Brian Maienschein of North San Diego County, adopts California Law Revision Commission recommendations. Civil Code 5551, enacted in 2020, requires all HOAs to have visual inspections of exterior elevated elements within the HOA’s maintenance or repair responsibility. Assembly Bill 1101, authored by Assembly member Heath Flora of the San Joaquin Valley, would add a third allowable inspector as an option, a Branch 3 registered pest control company.

Skye Hunt's 'In Celebration of the Mother' was made for her school's Earth Day art show on April 21, 2023, but was moved to an art room because the board deemed it too 'mature.' "When you think 'earth,' you think 'women.' You think 'mother,'" the 17-year-old told CBC Radio's Ontario Morning. "I feel really happy, really ecstatic that I've had the reach that I have," she said. "Hopefully it's helped some women or some girls somewhere feel more confident in themselves and know they're beautiful, [that] every body is a beautiful body."

I knew that, once I graduated from high school, I would need to take care of myself. The second option required a fifth year of high school, for which you earned an “honours” graduation diploma, which was necessary to go on to university. I was 18 years old, had a high school diploma, and figured maybe it was time to go out and earn a living, to help out — a classic working-class stance. I went to the guidance office at school and dropped out. I quit the job and went back to high school to finish Grade 13, having missed a semester.

They fantasized about a Britain reborn, unsoiled by royal privilege — though far from equal as a society, don’t be daft. And so they delivered King Charles I to the scaffold, ushering in a brief period of republicanism in what is today the United Kingdom. On Saturday, 136,696 days after Charles I had his head severed from his body, his descendant will be officially crowned King Charles III. In fact, the findings put Canada — which Charles has visited 18 times — near the top in antimonarchy sentiment: 47 per cent of those polled favouring divorcement. And in the meantime, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.”The challenge for King Charles, Goodale told the Star in an interview at Canada House, is how to reinvent monarchy in the 21st century.

I thought about that photo this week as the World Health Organization declared the emergency phase of the COVID-19 pandemic over. I think often about parents who had to work at factories, hospitals and stores. U.S. researchers last year found that the pandemic parenting burden was heavier on women, who performed, on average, two hours more of supervisory parenting tasks each day than men. Child-care centres and schools remain sensitive to symptoms of illness, a trend that is understandable in theory, but extremely challenging in practice for parents. For some parents, the idea of working from home with children again, even for a day, is unbearable.

Wagner has taken an increasingly visible role in the war in Ukraine as regular Russian troops have suffered heavy attrition and lost control over territory in humiliating setbacks. He has repeatedly complained that the Russian military failed to supply Wagner with sufficient ammunition to capture Bakhmut, the reason he cited Friday for his withdrawal threat. The U.S. estimates Wagner has about 50,000 personnel fighting in Ukraine, including 10,000 contractors and 40,000 of the convicts the company enlisted. The East Village site where a LAZ parking lot is now located is being offered up to developers to purchase and redevelop as long as they include a high proportion of affordable housing. Three months after killing longstanding plans for a Ritz-Carlton, the city of San Diego is hoping to entice developers across the country to reimagine the former East Village hotel site, as long as they include a substantial percentage of affordable housing units. She estimates that the solicitation for 7th & Market went to more than 1,200 developers and other interested parties. Some experts have questioned whether the site will attract a high level of interest given the affordable housing requirement.

Red Dress Day was observed in Canada on May 5, in remembrance of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and two-spirit people across the country. The occasion, also known as the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls and Two-Spirit People, is marked by people wearing red. “We pay tribute to our loved ones”Pauktuutit Inuit Women of Canada marked the day with the launch of the Red Amautiit Project. Indigenous women make up 4 per cent of Canada’s female population, but 16 per cent of all women murdered in Canada between 1980 and 2012 were Indigenous, government data found at the time. This violence is rooted in racism and marginalization of Indigenous people and particularly of Indigenous women.
