It was Louis de Lorimier’s first posting as an ambassador for Canada when he arrived in Lebanon in September 2005, after almost a quarter-century in the foreign service. Erased in so many ways from the pageantry and the historical record of the only coronation many of us will ever witness. The tunic is sentimentally precious to Charles because it was worn by his grandfather, King George VI, at the 1937 coronation. Charles later swapped it out, as is the custom upon departure from the Abbey, for the Imperial Crown featuring 2,868 diamonds. The late Queen called it her “party hat.”Diamond Jubilee State Coach to the Abbey, Gold State Coach from the Abbey. History may record yesterday’s coronation of King Charles III as being more about apathy than the traditions of an ancient monarchy. Whatever your stance, the reality is that long before yesterday, King Charles was already Canada’s head of state. One of the swords he was presented with, for example, symbolizes the sovereign’s mercy and was first used at the coronation of Charles I in 1626. According to Buckingham Palace, this coronation reflected the Monarch’s role today and looked toward the future. Even at ground zero in Britain, 52 per cent of people said they weren’t taking note of the coronation.

After a few quiet years in Sacramento regarding HOAs, California’s legislature is quite active this year with at least eight bills proposing to affect HOAs in 2024. Assembly Bill 648 would, if passed, allow HOAs to have purely virtual or telephonic meetings without having a physical location announced for those not wishing to participate virtually or telephonically. Assembly Bill 288, authored by Assembly member Brian Maienschein of North San Diego County, adopts California Law Revision Commission recommendations. Civil Code 5551, enacted in 2020, requires all HOAs to have visual inspections of exterior elevated elements within the HOA’s maintenance or repair responsibility. Assembly Bill 1101, authored by Assembly member Heath Flora of the San Joaquin Valley, would add a third allowable inspector as an option, a Branch 3 registered pest control company.

I knew that, once I graduated from high school, I would need to take care of myself. The second option required a fifth year of high school, for which you earned an “honours” graduation diploma, which was necessary to go on to university. I was 18 years old, had a high school diploma, and figured maybe it was time to go out and earn a living, to help out — a classic working-class stance. I went to the guidance office at school and dropped out. I quit the job and went back to high school to finish Grade 13, having missed a semester.

They fantasized about a Britain reborn, unsoiled by royal privilege — though far from equal as a society, don’t be daft. And so they delivered King Charles I to the scaffold, ushering in a brief period of republicanism in what is today the United Kingdom. On Saturday, 136,696 days after Charles I had his head severed from his body, his descendant will be officially crowned King Charles III. In fact, the findings put Canada — which Charles has visited 18 times — near the top in antimonarchy sentiment: 47 per cent of those polled favouring divorcement. And in the meantime, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.”The challenge for King Charles, Goodale told the Star in an interview at Canada House, is how to reinvent monarchy in the 21st century.
