Scottish university students studying in the country do not have to pay tuition fees but prestigious drama schools in England, including Guildhall School Of Music And Drama and Rada, charge upwards of £9,500 a year in tuition fees for undergraduate courses in acting. Tennant, 54, studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where students from Scotland can apply for funding which covers both tuition fees and living costs, according to its website. Speaking about the Scottish screen industry at the Bafta Scotland awards in Glasgow, Tennant said: “I think the thing that really has always worked for the UK and Scotland in particular is the kind of pipeline of talent. “I couldn’t have gone to drama school now. I got to go to drama school with a full grant, a maintenance grant.

The Home Office said the three countries were the most “obstructive’ in receiving their citizens, it reported. It comes as Ms Mahmood said she will end the UK’s “golden ticket” for asylum seekers as part of a major immigration crackdown which she claims will prevent division in Britain. Ms Mahmood described the row, which centred around disputed claims that Wes Streeting is vying to be prime minister, as "deeply mortifying" and referred to it as a "tittle tattle".

Keir Starmer (AP)'Civil War In No.10': UK Parl EXPLODES As Kemi Badenoch Grills UK PM Starmer Over Health Secy RowA Denmark-style modelMajor new restrictions plannedThe UK government is preparing to launch one of the most extensive overhauls of asylum rules in decades, with Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood set to announce a sweeping package of changes in the Commons on Monday. Asylum claims have also risen sharply, with more than 109,000 applications made in the year to March. Current rules allow most refugees to seek indefinite leave to remain after five years. Mahmood has indicated, however, that asylum seekers who use legal routes, find work and “contribute to society” could secure settlement sooner.Denmark introduced a similar system two decades ago, shifting refugees onto temporary permits that must be frequently renewed. Liberal Democrats argue asylum seekers should have the right to work, reducing reliance on state support.

One particular castle you should add to your bucket list is Castell Rhaglan (Raglan Castle), the "grandest castle ever built by Welshmen". Completed in the 16th century, this castle-palace is considered one of the last true medieval castles in Wales and is set amid rolling countryside. View 7 Images Raglan Castle is also a prime example of the changing nature of castles in the 15th century. By the mid-17th century, Raglan had become one of Britain's most sophisticated country houses, rivalling some of the country's grandest estates. A former coaching inn since 1829, The Angel Hotel is now a contemporary, countryside-chic hotel renowned for excellent dining.

The Trump administration is rapidly escalating its pressure campaign against Venezuela, with America’s largest aircraft carrier, the Ford, about to take up a position within striking distance of the country, even as President Trump’s aides provide conflicting accounts of what, exactly, they are seeking to achieve. Mr. Trump held back-to-back days of meetings at the White House over the past two days, reviewing military options, including the use of Special Operations forces and direct action inside Venezuela. It is still not clear whether Mr. Trump has made a decision about what kind of action to authorize, if any. On Friday, he told reporters on Air Force One that “I sort of made up my mind.” “I can’t tell you what it is,” he said, “but we made a lot of progress with Venezuela in terms of stopping drugs from pouring in.”It is possible Mr. Trump is relying on the arrival of so much firepower to intimidate the government of Nicolás Maduro, who the United States and many of its allies say is not Venezuela’s legitimate president. Mr. Maduro has put his forces on high alert, leaving the two countries with their weapons cocked and ready for war.

Carlisle Crown Court heard that Kiera Brennan, 23, stabbed the man in his leg because he had punched her. “There are underlying issues which need to be dealt with.”At the time of the stabbing, Brennan was under the influence of substances and she herself had been assaulted, said the barrister. Judge Fanning imposed a five-month jail term but this runs alongside her present prison recall term, which does not expire until November of next year. The judge noted that the sentence she has now resumed serving was also a crime committed in a domestic context. Referring to the stabbing in Silloth, Judge Fanning added: "There's a risk of really serious harm from stabbing in to the leg.
