President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine suggested on Friday that his country’s alliance with the United States could be at a breaking point as the White House presses Kyiv to respond by Thanksgiving to its plan to end the war against Russia. The 28-point proposal from the White House — which Kyiv has said was drafted without its involvement — would give Russia most of what it has asked for, including the surrender of Ukrainian territory and sharp limits on Ukraine’s military. The plan would require Ukraine to accept conditions that it and its European allies have long called unacceptable and tantamount to capitulation. In a video address to the Ukrainian people on Friday afternoon, Mr. Zelensky said that his country was facing “one of the most difficult moments in our history.”“Ukraine may soon find itself before a very difficult choice,” he said. Either the difficult 28 points, or an extremely hard winter — the hardest one — and further risks.”

It would almost be majestic, if it weren’t so smelly. An enormous wall of trash about 500 feet in length and up to four stories tall was recently discovered near a highway in the English countryside, leading to a national outcry across Britain. Despite its massive scale, the dump remained hidden from sight for weeks behind a row of trees, leaving many in the country who recently came across images of the heap in disbelief. “When I was sent the video and pictures, I had to double check and think, is this A.I. “In terms of the waste tips I’ve seen, this is probably the worst.

The prime minister is expected to make his own trip to the country, perhaps as soon as early next year. In September a case involving two men - including a former parliamentary researcher - who were accused of spying for China collapsed in controversial circumstances. Prosecutors said the case was dropped because they could not get evidence from the government referring to China as a national security threat. However, ministers insisted they were frustrated it collapsed and blamed the position of the previous Conservative government, as well as out-of-date national security legislation. Earlier this week MI5 issued an alert to MPs and peers, warning they faced a significant risk of spying from the Chinese state.

Sir Keir Starmer is poised to approve the new Chinese super-embassy in London, it has been reported. A Whitehall source told The Times on Thursday that the embassy’s approval by Dec 10 was likely to be a “formality”. It is understood that the intelligence agencies feel confident in their ability to mitigate any potential security risks around the embassy site. Sources have pointed out that the security service is well accustomed to countering national security risks from foreign states’ bases in the capital. He told Bloomberg: “It’s right and proper that the Chinese should get their embassy.”

Some would argue that a visit to an airport lounge before a flight is a good way to get a holiday started as it means to go on. The best combine a great view of the runway with tasty food and drinks on tap, where you can spend an hour or two unwinding before the flight. But others would say that this pre-flight routine depends on how good — and affordable — the lounge is. Most pay-to-enter UK airport lounges are mediocre and not worth the money, according to a new report by Which?. The consumer group visited 28 lounges across the UK this summer, offered by providers such as Plaza Premium, Aspire and No 1 Lounge, awarding them from one to five stars based on criteria such as facilities; a runway view; whether there were designated quiet areas and space for families; as well as all-important food and drink.
