Centerparcs, in Elveden, was included in a list compiled by The Times among breaks in the Cotswolds, Skye, and the Lake District. As reported by The Times, the group saw sales rise 40% to £134m in the 70 weeks ended December 2024. The extended reporting period allows the group’s UK business to be brought in line with its international counterpart following the reorganisation, which was announced in February this year and completed with the support of the private equity firm Lion Capital. Under the deal, both Ramsay and Lion Capital hold an equal 50% stake in a new holding company that’s headquartered in London. According to The Times, the group’s UK sales rose by 3% to a record £98.4m when adjusted to reflect performance over 52 weeks, up from sales of £95.6m generated in the year to September 2023. “We saw strong sales and underlying earnings last year despite continuing pressure on costs and people,” says Andy Wenlock, chief executive of Gordon Ramsay Restaurants.

The Times and The Sunday Times have launched a new weekly political podcast, The State of It, hosted by four Westminster journalists. Patrick Maguire, Gabriel Pogrund, Steven Swinford and Caroline Wheeler will combine their reporting experience to bring listeners insider conversations, tip offs and analysis from the centre of British politics. The first episode will be recorded live at the Labour Party Conference and released on Tuesday 30 September, with the second episode following from the Conservative Party Conference. Patrick, chief political commentator at The Times, said: “At The Times and The Sunday Times we hear every conversation that matters in British politics – including the ones they don’t want you to know about. Dan Finley, chief executive of Debenhams Group, said: “Launching into the US is about bringing our much-loved British fashion labels to new audiences overseas, starting with some of the most iconic department store names in the market. “Each now offers exciting products from some of the most iconic British brands with a point of difference within the market,” according to Debenhams. “The appetite we’re already seeing for our labels underlines the strength of British fashion internationally, and we’re excited to build on that momentum with our US partners,” Mr Finley added. The deals were arranged through Refined Networks, which helps fashion and lifestyle brands expand internationally through online marketplaces. It comes amid a difficult time for Debenhams Group, with Mr Finley – who was appointed last year – leading a major turnaround after mounting losses and flagging sales.

A local news journalist who returned to his first paper nearly 20 years after leaving to become a teacher has died aged 56. Neil Brandwood, pictured, began his career at the Bury Times in 1993 and recently rejoined the Newsquest-owned title as a reporter. After leaving the Bury Times in 2005, Neil worked as a teacher and in PR. He returned to the Bury Times this year, and quickly reconnected with old contacts. He worked with me at the Bury Times and later became a good friend as well as a valued colleague.
