The main objective of Care is to reorient the way things are done in Thailand by asking Thais what they want going forward. "And I think we have a right and I think Thais do have wisdom, knowledge and experience that should be shared. I don't believe in a white knight who comes in and tells you do this or that." I think there's a huge trade-off between what you want to achieve on Covid-19 and what the economy needs,'' he said. As the world moves forward, he said a new change in the way we tackle the economy is required.

Tourism aid to spur domestic spendingThe government encourages Thais to travel more to local destinations as the coronavirus restricts air travel. Chairat Trirattanajarasporn, president of the Tourism Council of Thailand (TCT), said many people have expressed interest in the government's domestic tourism packages, adding he expects tourist hotspots in the North to draw huge crowds during this year's high season. "Prior to the Covid-19 crisis, an average of 10 million Thais travel abroad annually, with each spending about 50,000 baht per trip -- equivalent to 500 billion baht per year," he said. On June 30, the cabinet approved two stimulus packages worth 22.4 billion baht to boost domestic tourism. Meanwhile, the "Moral Support'' promotion worth 2.4 billion baht will help fund holidays for 1.2 million health officials and volunteers.

(Photo by Tawatchai Kemgumnerd)Mercedes-Benz Thailand may delay its investment in the electric vehicle industry here after seeing no clear direction from the government to translate EV policy into action. Mercedes-Benz had announced a plan to start making EVs and batteries locally after applying with the Board of Investment (BoI) to join its incentive programme. "But now Mercedes is not sure about the policy to support the Thai EV industry, because the government has taken no further action," Mr Supant said. Mercedes-Benz believes that the success of the EV policy will depend on the government leading by example to boost domestic demand for electric cars.

District calls in influencer Sean, but he's vanishedBeleaguered social media influencer Sean Buranahiran will be summoned to meet local authorities this week to defend his controversial donation campaign, says an administrative official in Chiang Mai. Deputy Muang Chiang Mai district chief Boonyarit Nipawanit said he was unable to contact Sean and the young man had not contacted the local authorities in Chiang Mai either. The social media influencer and life coach came under fire after he praised Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon as "kind of sweet." His critics have since looked into Sean's social media activities and found irregularities in his donation campaign to help fight Chiang Mai wildfires earlier this year. The last post on June 27 says Sean has met the Provincial Police Region 5 responsible for Chiang Mai province to clarify his stand.

Four-legged friends need more of our loveOne of my favourite movies is A Dog's Purpose based on W Bruce Cameron's book about a dog that is reborn over and over again. Also in May, Chiang Mai University (CMU) lost its celebrated campus canine, fondly call Pi Tia Morchor. Meanwhile, Morchor refers to the Thai abbreviation for Chiang Mai University. Like Moose, Pi Tia Morchor was another inspiring example of a dog with a purpose. Pi Tia had been a lively part of this annual event for several years and would have wagged his tail up to Doi Suthep again if he were still alive.

LONDON: Britain's police said Sunday that revellers who packed London's Soho district the night pubs finally reopened made it "crystal clear" that drunk people cannot socially distance. It was really good to see people out and about and largely, very largely social distancing."
