A man walks with his child past a view of commercial buildings in Hong Kong on Thursday. "(US) acts are hypocritical and will certainly cause very serious damage to American companies and citizens," Hong Kong's government said. Given the huge international investments in Hong Kong, few are predicting a sudden capital flight. "It will take time and processes will be run before decisions will be made and implemented by multi-nationals with Hong Kong operations," Tsang said. "It must raise questions in the minds of international business people as to whether Hong Kong still offers an edge over a competitive mainland city."

With single origin and blends stemming from its incredible coffee landscape in Thailand, and brought to life right in the lobby level of the soon-to-open Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok, CRAFT is already shaping up as the latest coffee go-to. Justin describes CRAFT as the social hub of not just the hotel but the neighbourhood, hence its "Coffee & Brews Community" tagline. On draught are Full Moon Chalawan Pale Ale, Hacklberg-Dunkel, Triple Pearl, and Oedipus "Thai Thai".

The Thailand Development Research Institute expects the tourism sector will start to recover once a Covid-19 vaccine is rolled out late next year. (Bangkok Post photo)The Thailand Development Research Institute (TDRI) is predicting the tourism sector will start to recover once a Covid-19 vaccine is rolled out late next year. "We can expect more Chinese tourists in the post-Covid-19 world," she told a forum titled "Thailand's post-Covid-19 economy and the most vulnerable". According to the TDRI, domestic tourism was already recovering but would not return to the pre-Covid-19 level [6% of GDP] due to safety and financial concerns. Thailand's representative for Human Rights Watch said domestic tourism, having just bounced back, had been shattered by the case in Rayong.

'Judo therapy': martial art with healing powerHiroyuki Mitsuhashi, who uses 'judo therapy', treats a rugby player at his Tokyo clinicTOKYO - Judo is known for its killer throws and lightning-fast grappling moves but the sport has a lesser-known application popular in Japan: the ancient healing art of "judo therapy." The "sappo" or "kill method" developed into the Olympic sport and the "kappo" or "resuscitation method" grew into the art of "judo therapy." More than 73,000 licensed judo therapists work at more than 50,000 clinics across Japan. She ditched her specialist in favour of Mitsuhashi, who used judo therapy techniques to manipulate the joints and realign the bones correctly. Many judo therapists offer regular classes of low-impact exercise inspired by the martial art that are keeping pensioners sprightly and more resistant to falls.

(Photo © NETFLIX)The Maid, Netflix's first Thai ghost movie production, is no different -- the clichéd story of a poor village girl who's hired as a maid at the mansion of a wealthy family. While it sounds like a fortunate career opportunity, at the mansion the girl must confront dark hidden secrets and the vengeful spirit who also lives there. One particular scene, where a ghost pops out from above a wardrobe, appears borrowed from the American film. Then it turns into a slasher film in the final act, with all the ghosts somehow disappearing into thin air with no explanation. The Maid is a horror film that combines some promising elements, but with the poor direction and execution, I would recommend skipping this movie.

People register for the tourism stimulus scheme on smartphones Wednesday. Major provinces are expected to benefit the most from the stimulus. The Tourism and Sports Ministry aims to use the second phase of tourism stimulus to boost second-tier provinces and local economies by adding more subsidies for travellers who want to venture off the beaten track. The second phase should make more hotel rooms, local homestays and home lodges accessible in less-popular provinces and communities, said Mr Phiphat. He said the ministry also wants to stimulate more domestic tourism during weekdays in the second phase.

Globally, various 5G-enabled devices are ready for consumers, including smartphones, CCTV, fixed wireless access devices and 5G module chipsets, all helping to speed adoption of 5G among the public. "We need to select focused industries and digital awareness and skills to move forward with a digitised Thailand," Mr Woragarn said. He said 5G technology will play an important role in autonomous driving and connected cars. 5G tech could make it faster and smoother to transfer such data, which is substantial in size. 5G also brings an immersive shopping experience with virtual and augmented reality to allow customers to "try on" clothes and lipstick.

Sa Kaeo: A senior police sergeant major is facing criminal charges for allegedly helping to traffic foreign nationals into the kingdom in Aranyaprathet district. However, the commissioner said police investigators were able to get hold of solid evidence showing he had smuggled 20 foreign nationals arrested near the border on July 3 without them having undergone a health check. The charges were brought against the squad leader as authorities remain on high alert to catch an ever-increasing number of foreign nationals slipping across the porous borders. Pol Lt Gen Sompong said investigators were probing whether the squad leader was connected to a trafficking gang run by Petcharat Sathorn who was also arrested recently. Meanwhile, Col Akekapong Krittayakiatchuti, head of the 12th Ranger Forces Regiment, led border authorities on an inspection of Rong Kluea market opposite the Cambodian border town of Poipet.

Covid success coming at a heavy pricePrime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha gestures as he talks with vendors in a market in Rayong as the province is gripped by fear over a second Covid-19 wave following a recent visit by an infected Egyptian airman. By presiding over a public mindset of "zero" local virus infections, the government raised unrealistic expectations at a high price. Local outrage at the Egyptian and Sudanese infections and potential spread also stem from the price of quarantine. Foreign talent and direct investment connected to the Eastern Economic Corridor and Thailand 4.0 projects should be at the forefront. The alternative is to maintain single-digit or zero infections in a relatively autarkic economy with lost jobs, corporate bankruptcies, non-performing-loans, and diminished and dimming prospects for local livelihoods.
