The allegations stem from a rally staged by the Free Youth movement at Democracy Monument on July 18. The potential for confrontation has been increasing since Monday, when thousands who rallied at Thammasat University heard speakers issue an unprecedented 10-point manifesto calling for reform of the monarchy under the constitution.

This year must not see a repeat of 1976Pro-democracy students put up a sign encouraging people to sign up for a charter amendment campaign. While Prime Minister Prayut pledges support for charter amendment, he still has reservations, saying the government will have to consult coalition parties so there is a consensus. On the contrary, it must quickly put in place a mechanism for charter amendment under Section 256 of the Supreme Law. In 1976, right-wing extremists accused student protesters of being communists trying to abolish the highest institution. With three demands -- charter amendment, House dissolution and an end to state intimidation of activists -- the flash mobs have gained significant momentum.

Boost worker safety netTypically, the Labour Ministry is not a much sought-after portfolio among Thai politicians. When the cabinet is formed or reshuffled, labour seats are often given to newbies or MPs from smaller coalition parties. Indeed, the new labour minister has a chance to make a big splash and score right away by expediting the amendment of the Social Security Act 1990 which governs the Social Social Security Office (SSO). Both amended sections will help the Social Security Fund (SSF) to better manage its cash flow and avoid a financial drought. So, the new labour minister must move fast to fast-track this legislation to improve pension welfare and strengthen workers' social safety net.

Italy's 'plague-free' wine windows enjoy pandemic renaissanceSmall "wine windows" were created in 16th-century Florence for landowners and wealthy families to sell the alcohol they produced directly to customers. FLORENCE, Italy: As 16th-century Florentines dropped like flies to the plague, survivors drowned their fears in wine, passed to them through small windows which are enjoying a renaissance during the coronavirus era. The landowners were only allowed to sell wine they had produced themselves, and only 1.4 litres at a time. To date, some 267 of the wine windows have been rediscovered in Tuscany, with 149 of them in the centre of Florence. An association called "Le buchette del vino" ("Wine Holes") now catalogues the windows, placing plaques below each one.

Pornprom SatrabhayaThailand needs a better ecosystem to support the Internet of Things (IoT), an important tool to help the government attain its ambitious goal of building smart industries following the Covid-19 period. "But our ecosystem is not ready for IoT," Mr Jesada told a webinar on smart industries, co-organised by the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau, the Thai Chamber of Commerce, Post Today and Bangkok Post. "These are outdated views," Mr Bunn said. Building an automated warehouse, in which items are stored, sorted and picked along vertical space by a computer system, is a sound investment from the start because such management helps businesses reduce storage areas and better manage costs, said Mr Bunn.

There is no place here for bad apples. Since Mr Sakda exposed the corrupt politicians, the House committee on laws, justice and human rights has taken up the case. Earlier, Deputy Finance Minister Santi Promphat, who chairs the House committee overseeing budget scrutiny, insisted the House sub-committees have no power to revise budget allocations already approved. When Mr Sakda spoke up, society gave him overwhelming support. The Sira panel should be expanded to probe other cases of blatant political wrongdoing.
