Mumbai: Bharti Airtel has said it does not collect personal information of its customers and said it was a “clerical error” which led to some content being put briefly on its website which raised concerns over data privacy among some subscribers.“We would like to state that privacy of our customers is of paramount importance to us. “The generic content of the definitions of what constitutes personal data as laid down by the IT Act are expansive, which had been inadvertently put on to our website. This was a clerical error,” it said on Monday.A company executive who did not wish to be identified said: "This seems to be a controversy from a non-existent issue. Data privacy has been a concern over the last couple of years and advisory groups have kept a watch on any lapses . "The policy which we have always used to collect data has been duly updated for the benefit of our customers and can be accessed here - https://www.airtel.in/privacy-policy/.," Airtel said.
