Zeti: 'I would cooperate' in Bank Negara's US$10b forex loss probe

KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 23): Former Bank Negara Malaysia governor Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz said she would cooperate with the Government's special taskforce to probe the central bank's alleged US$10 billion (about RM44 billion) foreign exchange (forex) loss in the 1990s. According to Zeti, the US$10 billion was never raised during her tenure as Bank Negara governor. Today, she said: "If I am called by the taskforce, of course I would cooperate with the authorities. It is the wish of the current leadership to investigate the matter but I cannot comment on it until the investigation is completed," Zeti said. Zeti was speaking to reporters after launching the International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance's (INCEIF) Islamic finance books here today.
