KEPALA BATAS: The flood disaster that hit Penang, Kedah, Perlis and northern Perak is a lesson for the whole country, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. “If the Meteorological Department had alerted the National Disaster Committee earlier, preparations to save flood victims could have been done faster. “What happened here is a lesson for everyone,” Dr Ahmad Zahid said yesterday. Dr Ahmad Zahid said the Meteorological Department had been utilising a new technology and produced data that forecast weather changes from November to February. Dr Ahmad Zahid said the National Disaster Committee would use the Kemaman Template (used to plan for floods).
