Young flautist piping on toward orchestral dreamsWARWICK SMITH/STUFF Ainslee Smithers playing flute for Neon Fusion, at the Sounds of Summer Concert in the Esplanade in February. Orchestral dreams beckon a young Feilding flautist, who is taking the first steps toward achieving them. Enrolling in music at Feilding High School meant Smithers picked out the flute as the orchestral instrument she wanted to learn to play. She had already been learning piano, but it was the beautiful tones and expression of the flute that captured her. DAVID UNWIN/STUFF Ainslee Smithers, second from right, took a trip to the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland with the Feilding High School Neon Fusion jazz band.
