It is believed he was waiting at a taxi rank with his wife Nicole on December 23 when a row broke out involving two men who were working nearby. Charlie McCarthy and his wife Nicole had moved back out to live in Australia. Mr McCarthy had emigrated to Australia a number of years ago, but returned to live in Ireland with his Australian-born wife Nicole.
