★★★★☆In 2017 the EU told Leeds that after the Brexit vote the city was no longer eligible to be European Capital of Culture in 2023 — despite having spent more than £1 million on the bid. In a yah boo sucks move, this West Yorkshire-wide sculpture festival, a key element of that bid, has gone ahead anyway. Each of the four venues has responded in its own way to the artist Phyllida Barlow’s assertion that “sculpture is the most anthropological of the art forms”, exploring it through the work of multiple artists.
