Xi Jinping reappointed as China’s president for a rare five-year term

Beijing: China’s parliament on Friday unanimously approved an unprecedented third five-year term for President Xi Jinping. Xi, 69, was re-elected as leader of the ruling Chinese Communist Party (CPC) at its five-year party congress last October, making him the first Chinese leader after Communist Party founder Mao Zedong. China’s legislative body, the National People’s Congress (NPC), voted on the likely bill for Xi Jinping’s third term of ratification after mechanically and regularly backing the CCP’s decisions on Friday. He was elected party general secretary at last October’s party congress, which also elected new leaders of all top policy bodies. The term of the current Premier Li Keqiang will end at the National People’s Congress this year.
