Manchester City have been name-dropped as a surprise possible destination for Xabi Alonso after the Spaniard reportedly plotted his next move before joining Bayer Leverkusen. Alonso has been linked with Europe’s biggest clubs and is considered a possible successor to Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp having enjoyed a memorable campaign in Germany. The Spaniard is the favourite to replace the Liverpool manager when he steps down at the end of the season. But Alonso could also eye the Man City job after making waves in his first full season at Leverkusen. He had previously played for the Basque-based side and was manager of the club’s B team until being lured to Germany.
