World’s tallest Durga idol to be revealed in Assam

A 101-feet tall idol of the Hindu Goddess Durga will be formally revealed during the auspicious occasion of Mahashasthi in Indian’s Assam state on Tuesday. Explaining his role in the making of the idol, Nuruddin said: “Many people ask me why I make idols despite being a Muslim. I had been making idols since 1975. I firmly believe that an artist has no religion, and his only duty is to serve humanity.”Authorities hope that the monumental idol makes its place to the Guinness Book of World Records for being the tallest bamboo sculpture, and the tallest Goddess Durga idol in the world. Refusing to bow down to the whims of mother nature, 40 artisans worked round the clock to rebuild the idol ahead of the Durga Puja celebrations.
