Work to protect breakwater finished

Massive rock protection work, including 27-tonne rocks and tetrapods, has finished at Oamaru’s breakwater. The largest protection work in the history of Oamaru’s breakwater has been completed. The latest $657,000 project included 27-tonne rocks being used for the first time, and eight tetrapods placed at the head of the breakwater. Not being able to find substantial rock had been a ‘‘killer’’ for previous protection work. The scale of the project gave Mr Rhodes the confidence it would work to protect the breakwater.
