Work is set to get under way on removing at least part of a landslip which has been blocking a main road in Wanaka for almost a week now. Earthworks are set to begin on opening the westbound lane of Lakeside Rd, the lane closest to the lake, but there is still no timeline for when that would happen. Workers will then start clearing the mud and debris from the westbound lane so it could be reopened. Council contractors Opus International have independently assessed the developers' plans for the removal of the slip and were satisfied the removal process could start. If any movement from the site of the slip was detected during its removal the work would immediately stop, Mr Crosby-Roe said.
