The much-awaited works on the Kamadhenu National Breeding Centre at Chintaladevi in Nellore district here, are all set to begin soon with the district administration initiating preliminary infrastructure development plans for the project. A sum of ₹25 crore has been sanctioned for this project already which is the only such project in the entire South India. The Chintaladevi centre has a major advantage as it has got nearly 2,000 acres and hence wide scope for developing the necessary facilities such as semen stations and bull mother farms. Indigenous breedsOnce completed, the Chintaladevi breeding centre will act as a repository of germplasm of indigenous bovine breeds for the entire State. The breeding centre is expected to create other facilities that would serve the needs of farmers and breeders for artificial insemination, supply of semen doses, and so on.
