Woman honoured for training dogs to help impaired peopleWarwick Smith/Stuff Whanganui's Merenia Donne has been recognised in the New Year Honours List for services to training disability assistance dogs. Merenia Donne admits she was "absolutely stunned" when she received the letter inviting her to accept her New Year's honour for services to training disability assistance dogs. The foundation specialises in training medical support dogs for people with life-threatening conditions and has also trained and provided disability assistance dogs. Today, the foundation has about 12 dogs in training, the newest being a white german shepherd named Delta after the company in Afghanistan veteran Dion Taka served with. Donne said the dogs were trained for any impairment, especially rare or life-threatening conditions.
