In the Palmerston North District Court on Tuesday, Karrianne Waterman was sentenced on a drink-driving charge. Relatives of a woman who drove after a heavy drinking session were so concerned about her jumping behind the wheel they called police. Karrianne Hine Waterman was pulled over near Feilding on July 5 and found to have a breath-alcohol reading of 1361 micrograms. Defence lawyer Fergus Steedman told the Palmerston North District Court on Tuesday the “catastrophically high” reading came after a period of stress that started the night before. She managed to grab her car keys and drive off, as her long-term partner and father watched on “appalled”.
