Too many need helpOne of the tropes one can hear is that at least lower-income people have access to subsidized insurance. For those on the lower end of the economic stratum, 19 states still have not adopted Medicaid expansion, as of January 2017 as tracked by the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation. Here's a look at the current picture, with 2015 median incomes from the Census Bureau and Medicaid expansion status show by color (green for yes, orange for no). The average of the median incomes in the "yes" group is $59, 354, which is about 12 percent higher than the $53,066 average median incomes in the "no" group. The people at the bottom are not getting the help they could because those states refuse the Medicaid expansion.
