Win for Uhuru, Raila as Mps vote against amendments on Political Parties Bill

Major win as President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM boss Raila Odinga’s allies defeat yet another move by Tangatanga to amend the Political Parties (Amendment) Bill, 2021. A record 158 MPs voted to defeat the amendments by Kandara MP Alice Wahome against 134 who voted for the changes. MP Alice Wahome had proposed a deletion of Chapter Six of the Amendment Bill sponsored by the Majority Leader Amos Kimunya. Clause 6 provides among other things the procedure to be followed for the registration of coalition political party, which includes the deposit of a coalition agreement. The clause also provides that a member of a coalition shall not be a member of another coalition.
