The whole scene was laboured and awkward, which makes it a fine metaphor for the Jays’ upcoming offseason. When Bautista arrived at spring training and declared that he had given the Jays a contract number and there was nothing to negotiate, you had to concede he was in a position of strength. It’s fair to say that the thinking on the Blue Jays could be unsettled at the moment. A good number of the Blue Jays likely won’t be back — R.A.
