Last week marked the deadline for MPs and the general public to submit reports to the House of Commons special committee on electoral reform. However, though she submitted a report on town halls inside her riding, democratic institutions minister Maryam Monsef still hasn’t publicly offered any insights from her still-ongoing cross-country tour on electoral reform. “We all had a homework assignment that we were meant to consult with Canadians,”said the NDP’s electoral reform critic, Nathan Cullen. Her press secretary, Jean-Bruno Villeneuve, argued the fact she reported on town halls in her riding means that Monsef didn’t miss the deadline, even though other materials she gathered — which he said went “over and above” the MP town halls — were not released. More town halls are being scheduled for later this month, including in Calgary and Victoria.
