Wigan Athletic manager Paul Cook's attempts to avoid relegation from the Championship have been dealt a blow after the Latics were handed a 12-point deduction. Wigan will be handed a 12-point deduction after entering administration with the timing of the sanction to be decided when final Championship placings are determined, the EFL has announced. Wigan are the first professional English club to fall into administration since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic. Wigan are 14th in the Championship with 50 points, eight points clear of the relegation zone with six games to play. The English Football League confirmed that Wigan would be docked 12 points, the standard penalty for a club entering administration.
