The salary offered to the Christchurch City Council's new chief executive, Dawn Baxendale, has been criticised by some. Dawn Baxendale is a name suggesting many things but most of all it implies resilience. This figure is a little more than the previous CCC chief executive earned but still significantly less than the chief executive who reigned 10 years ago. So I have no problem with Dawn Baxendale getting $495,000 a year. It is galling that no-one good enough for the job could be found in New Zealand, but let's give Dawn Baxendale a chance.
