(Photo: Lillian Reed - The Evening Sun)Buy PhotoA suspected gasoline leak led Hanover Borough residents to call emergency authorities Dec. 1 when the smell of fuel wafted through homes. The suspected leak of about 800 gallons of gasoline from a Hanover gas station caused the scent, which prompted several calls to the fire department and Columbia Gas over the weekend. The possible leak, which resulted in gasoline entering the Hanover sewer system, is not a hazard to residents other than irritation caused by the smell, said Hanover-Penn fire chief Anthony Clousher on Monday. Hanover sewer department crews popped open the lids of several manholes and saw the sheen of gasoline sitting on top of the water.
