Breeds including labrador retrievers, weimaraners and Brittany spaniels could not make out a red cat running against a green background in a series of tests carried out by scientists in Italy. The findings confirm suspicions that dogs only have two kinds of pigment at the back of their eyes: one for the long and medium wavelengths of light that correspond to red and green, and the other for blue.
