But here’s the thing: As Ragnarok soars past $750 million worldwide, you can make the case that the Thor franchise has been, commercially speaking, Marvel’s most underrated superhero franchise. I am as guilty as anyone of considering the Thor movies to be of lesser financial stock compared to Captain America or Iron Man. But the Thor franchise got bigger as the comic book superhero genre itself got bigger. Coupled with solid reviews and the last four years of MCU movies, and Thor: Ragnarok essentially did what Thor movies always do and put itself near the top of the MCU food chain. Point being, the wacky action fantasy scored big because, not despite, being a Thor movie.
