DNA saved the day this week, bringing the long sought after Golden State Killer to justice. That genetic material can be traced back to you --- and confirmed with the abandoned DNA you discard out in the world every single day. Yes, in the dark of the night my mind crept into the Orwellian corners of genetic testing and what we have created. Most importantly, I fear that people will be afraid to pursue the genetic testing that they could use to reduce their disease risks, or even save their lives. I’ve witnessed the good that genetic counseling and testing can do, and know the tremendous potential it holds for the future of medicine.
