Why Kerala not buying enough cars is something Modi shouldn't ignore

NEW DELHI: Kerala is not buying enough cars and that should be Narendra Modi government's worry right now. This month's buying data released by the Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) puts Delhi ahead of Kerala in vehicle buying. While passenger vehicle sales in Kerala grew about 2% to 1,95,400 units in FY16, Delhi registered sales of as many as 1,99,400 vehicles. Well, not really if you look at the numbers closely.Kerala's slump in vehicle buying is an after-effect of the recession blues West Asia is going through. India is the largest recipient of remittances in the world and the Gulf countries account for more than half of this amount. To cope with the slowdown, Gulf nations are adopting cost-cutting measures such as the halting of construction projects and subsidy cuts.
