Photobucket is embroiled in an extraordinary row with its customers, who have accused the image-hosting service of holding users' photographs to ransom. Photobucket is widely used by small businesses selling through sites such as Amazon or Etsy, and up until now has offered 2GB of storage for free or 102GB for $100 per year. Now, though, these users have been told that they can't hotlink unless they upgrade to the most expensive Plus 500 Plan. The change means that millions of images have disappeared from listings worldwide, being replaced by a message urging action instead. Of course, given the way it's now hemorrhaging customers, if it does a U-turn, that should be less of a problem.
