Tokyo may be in the midst of a hotel shortage, but its hotel scene has no shortage of luxury. It’s hard to have a bad night in a luxury hotel in Tokyo right now. The Palace Hotel is the only independent, Japanese-owned five-star hotel in the city. In its earlier life, the Palace Hotel was a business travel stalwart—it opened in 1961— but it has become more attractive to leisure travelers. Then again, the Palace Hotel isn’t 100% Japanese tradition.
