Some countries feel the impact more than others and according to recent OECD data, Spain can always expect a healthy economic boost from its tourism industry. Given those figures, it comes as no major surprise that the Spanish tourist industry is crucial to the country's economy. The OECD's report entitled "OECD Tourism Trends and Policies 2018", found that in 2016, tourism accounted for 11 percent of Spain's GDP. In 2016, tourism accounted for 3.9 percent of Germany's GDP while in Japan, it was even less at just 1.9 percent. In the United States, the tourism sector contibuted to 2.7 percent of GDP in 2016.
