However, one thing that has been surprising and will be etched in my memory for a long time is the retreat to divisive ethnic jingoism and stereotypes. This will require that we are courageous, open-minded and have a deeper sense of history. Forty-nine years ago, the most atrocious 3 years in our history ended with an estimated 2Million Nigerians killed in the genocidal civil war. It is the absence of the complexity and nuance of history and experience that over and over again leads people to retreat into ethnic biases and stereotypical attacks. I believe, it is the only way we can form a true Nigerian out of our differences.
