Sir, I have long believed that our leaders do not want a well-informed electorate (letters, May 28). Many of my generation (sixties) have no idea how our own parliament works, let alone EU legislation. The younger generation (forties) know even less, while their offspring (twenties) seem to have had no schooling in history, let alone politics, and are shockingly unaware that we are in the EU and what that means. On asking the latter if they were going to vote in the 2016 referendum, I heard too many reply that they did not know what it was about, so “no”. We are an ignorant electorate who vote on emotion and manipulation by those who shout loudest and appear most often in the media.
