Further left is the Free and Equal alliance, formed by dissidents of the PD, for whom Mr. Renzi was too centrist. This alliance is made up of smaller parties and proposes, among other things, to undo some of the flexibility Mr. Renzi introduced in employment and labour law. Further right on the spectrum are the Northern League (LN) and the neo-fascist Brothers of Italy. Both parties run on a Eurosceptic and anti-migration platform and have joined Forza Italia and the liberal-conservative, Us With Italy, to form a centre-right coalition. The migrant influx into Italy over the last few years, a growing but still sluggish economy with close to 11% unemployment, and a consequent disenchantment with the EU and the Italian political class have dominated the political discourse in Italy of late.
