The new feature for WhatsApp status is reportedly available for the beta users already and is at a testing stage for now. As per a report by Android Police, the text status feature is a part of WhatsApp beta version 2.17.291. To put out a coloured text status like Facebook, WhatsApp users will just have to click on the floating pencil, write and upload it.
