That out of the way, what is up with Brazil’s latest presidential crisis? The Times article did not quote anyone from the opposition, but it is safe to say that it is the Workers’ Party (PT), a former ally of Temer’s Democratic Movement Party (PMDB). This is where the real political crisis sits, not with the Lima property deal, which is unlikely to lead to an impeachment. The latest spotlight on Temer is not part of the Petrobras scandal and therefore has no meaningful impact on the company. Sadly, if this keeps up, Brazil’s political crisis will reduce its growth prospects in 2017.
