When a mob of youths, some as young as 14, were arrested for assaulting a police officer in Huntly west a week ago, the town howled "poor parenting". Social media flooded with comments condemning the parents of these kids, alongside others denouncing the town itself. Huntly west residents had a median income of $19,200 at the 2013 census – $3500 less than Huntly east residents.
