SportSri Lanka weightlifter Chamari Warnakulasuriya, is likely to be awarded with the bronze of the Women's Weightlifting 53kg event, after the gold medal winner, Sanjitha Khumukcham of India, is learnt to have failed a doping test. According to international media, the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) has revealed that Khumukcham has failed a doping test last month and she the Commonwealth Games officials may strip off her medal, which may result in Warnakulasuriya being awarded the bronze medal. If the IWF decision comes to action Dika Tou of Papua New Guinea, who won the silver medal in April would be granted the gold medal while Rachel Leblanc-Bazinet of Canada, who won the bronze medal, would have her status upgraded to a silver medal. Sri Lanka finished off with its best performance at a Commonwealth Games, grabbing six medals in Gold Coast, Australia and the latest development could further swell the tally to seven.
