Webinar on domestic violence during Covid-19 pandemic held Saturday


Photo: BigstockDhaka Tribune was the broadcast partner of the webinar hosted by AarnaAarna, a campaign against gender based violence, on Saturday hosted a webinar on the sharp rise in domestic violence statistics worldwide against the background of the Covid-19 pandemic. The webinar covered various issues, including victim shaming, lack of understanding of the cycle of abuse, social stigma, lack of knowledge and capability of supporting domestic violence victims at the community level. Project Aarna aims to leverage the power of social media to influence constructive dialogue, increased awareness, empathy and call to action to end gender based violence. The project will comprise a series of webinars featuring psychologists, social workers, activists, NGO representatives, development professionals, lawyers and domestic violence survivors with a view to promoting a multifaceted discussion on domestic violence and all the factors that enable it. Other panelists include Sanjida Ahmed, solicitor and gender based violence expert Farisa Kabir, BLAST lawyer Nusrat Meraji, Samara Mortada from UN Women and Anjuman Ovi.
