Wayne State University officer shot in downtown Detroit, police say


DETROIT—An officer who works for a major university in Detroit has been shot while on duty off campus, a Wayne State University statement posted on the school’s website said Tuesday night, while armed officers continued to search the area of the shooting. The victim was shot a few blocks southwest of the school, Officer Shanelle Williams said. The school statement said he was injured and taken to a local hospital, Detroit Receiving. Several dozen armed officers from the Detroit police and Michigan state police were seen in the residential area of Woodbridge near campus. The shooting occurred at around 6:45 p.m. Tuesday and follows four recent incidents in which law enforcement officers were shot.
