The 40-year-old had two stints at Everton, either side of 13 years at Manchester United, before playing for DC United and Derby County late in his career. It was during his pomp at Old Trafford that he plotted ending his career with Celtic, but it never came to pass. Asked on The Wayne Rooney Show for the best atmosphere he has played in, the former forward said: ‘Best atmosphere, I’d have to say Celtic Park. ‘I’d played there for Everton in a pre-season game and I’m a big Celtic fan. It was not long after I’d asked to leave Manchester United and then I’d signed.
